Gila River Relocation Center, Rivers, Arizona. Evacuee farmers are here harvesting Daikon, a large radish like vegetable which is a great delicacy among the Japanese people. It is eaten either raw, cooked or pickled. The seed for this crop was loaned by Min Omata, unit foreman, from Fresno, California. This center harvested 65 acres of this vegetable, and is the only War Relocation Authority project growing it in large quantities.
